[Infographic] Ethics in Mental & Behavioral Health

VISIBLE – VOCAL – VISIONARY

Mental and Behavioral Healthcare has become big business, surpassing all other medical needs in the United States to become the top medical expense. This boom has brought with it new ethical challenges. California has been in the news recently as the owner of multiple rehab facilities has been accused of the largest insurance fraud in California history and sexual assault.

As a healthcare institution or provider, it is imperative that you set yourself apart from those who are breaking (or even bending) the bounds of our ethical pledge to help patients and clients to recovery. The following infographic gives a quick illustration of some of the ethical challenges we now face & puts forth a standard by which we can tackle these issues head on.

Plato, perhaps the most famous of ancient philosophers laid the groundwork for our modern social mores. Plato believed that ethics were the pillars of good human behavior. Believing in thoughtful consideration and wise deliberation in all matters he wrote that “human well-being is the highest aim of ethical thought and action”. As such, ethical standards have made a home in our daily lives. In essence, the world’s ancient philosophers posited that if life is a series of choices, ethics are the oil that greases our gears and keeps us moving forward with integrity, dignity and concern.
